James Ford

"GodÕs Favorite Team" is a novel of a crisis of faith, against the backdrop of a 1996 season unique in college football history, by a devoted FSU fan. Only three years before, the fan wrote a book saying FSUÕs national title in 1993 proved FSU was GodÕs Favorite. Then in December 1996, FSU is poised to win a second title in four years. They beat their arch-rival Gators in the regular-season finale, but then through a series of ÒmulligansÓ unmatched in history, end up in a Title Rematch with the Gators theyÕd already beaten. Thus the crisis of faith. That December 1996, the fan felt impending doom, then saw his worst fears realized in a debacle of the 1997 Sugar Bowl. The novel reviews four FSU seasons from 1993 through 1996, and the aftermath of the 1997 Sugar Bowl. Through it all comes a message of hope: ÒThis book was originally written in the dark days after The Great FSU Loss to the Gators in the 1997 Sugar Bowl..."
A message of hope, and proof that the Noles are still ÒGodÕs Favorite.Ó
